Welcome Descendants of Virginia
The Moore family, as we currently know it, begins with Virginia, also known as Jennie in the 1870 Holmes County, Mississippi census. Virginia was enslaved in Lexington, Holmes County, Mississippi, and born about 1840. Her children were Anderson Moore (b. 1862–d. 1939), Willie Moore (b. 1864), Lafayette Moore (b. 1870–d. 1942), Fred Burns Jr. and Dollie Burns (b. 1877–d. 1926). It is believed that Samuel W. Moore (b. 1815–d. 1883) was her enslaver and with him, Virginia bore her first three sons. Fred Jr. and Dollie’s father was Fred Burns, whom Virginia later married.
